Member Trademark Usage Guidelines

Unless specifically designated otherwise, capitalized terms used in these Trademark Usage Guidelines shall have the meanings given them in the Participating Sender License Agreement between Return Path and Participating Sender, as the same may be amended from time to time (the "License Agreement").

  1. So long as ALL IP addresses controlled by Participating Sender continue to be Certified IP Addresses and Participating Sender is in full compliance with the License Agreement, Participating Sender shall have the right to display on its Websites the Sender Score Certified™ logo (the "Logo"), as well as the taglines "Sender Score Certified™" (collectively with the Logo, the "Trademarks"). See the Branding Usage guidelines for the full range of uses allowed, and guidelines for each.
  2. So long as Participating Sender is a participant in Sender Score Certified and is in full compliance with the License Agreement, Return Path shall display the Logo in connection with each of Participating Sender's Certified IP Addresses at http://www.senderbase.org.
  3. Any other uses of the Trademarks or any descriptions of Sender Score Certified that are outside of the branding guidelines must be approved in writing by Return Path prior to such use or description.
  4. Return Path will make the Logo available to Participating Sender for download at http://www.senderscorecertified.com/about/ssc_logo.php, and Participating Sender shall use the Logo without modification, including using the same form, size, typeface, and color, unless otherwise approved in writing by Return Path prior to such use. The Trademarks may not be combined with any other symbols, including words, logos, icons, graphics, photos, slogans, numbers, or other design elements. Each Trademark must appear by itself, with spacing between each side of such Trademark and other graphic or textual elements on Participating Sender's Website.
  5. Participating Sender may not use the Trademarks, in whole or in part, as part of Participating Sender's company name, domain name, product name, logo, trade dress, design, slogan, or other trademarks, or as the title of Participating Sender's Website. Participating Sender may not use the Trademarks in association with any of Participating Sender's trademarks in any manner that might suggest co-branding or otherwise create potential confusion as to source or sponsorship of Participating Sender's content or Website, or ownership of the Trademarks.
  6. Participating Sender shall make such changes to the Trademarks and descriptions of Sender Score Certified as Return Path shall reasonably request to protect the value of the Trademarks used by Participating Sender.
  7. The first usage of each Trademark in materials should be followed by a "™". The "Sender Score Certified" trademark should always be used as an adjective and be followed by the word "Program". It should never be used as a noun or verb, nor should prefixes or suffixes be attached. The first letter of each word should always be capitalized.
  8. Participating Sender agrees not to register any trademarks or trade names of Return Path or its licensors without Return Path's prior written consent, and agrees not to register any confusingly similar trademarks or trade names.
  9. The Trademarks shall be attributed to "Return Path, Inc. and its licensors" everywhere they are used. All usage of the Trademarks shall inure to the benefit of Return Path and Return Path reserves the right to object to unfair uses or misuses of its trademarks or other violations of applicable law.

Member Branding Guidelines

As an accredited member of Return Path’s Sender Score Certified program, you are able to use the Sender Score Certified brand in certain communication vehicles. Please use the following guidelines when mentioning the program in your marketing and client communications.

Please note: if your IP addresses are suspended from the program for 30 consecutive days, you must stop inclusion of all Sender Score Certified branding in your material immediately. If re-instated, you can resume such branding initiatives. Return Path can also request you cease use sooner than 30 days for specific cases.

General marketing guidelines

If all of your IP addresses are accredited, you may include mention and description of Sender Score Certified and your participation in the program in:

You may not include the logo of mention in your day-to-day customer emails as a "seal" or promise of inbox delivery.

When mentioning Sender Score Certified, it should be referred to as:
Return Path’s Sender Score Certified program

Until September 2006, you can also refer to it as:
Return Path’s Sender Score Certified, formerly the Bonded Sender Program

You may no longer use the "I’m a bonded sender" language, as the program has changed and that phrase is no longer relevant. Consider instead:
We are accredited under Return Path’s Sender Score Certified …
My email program is certified by Return Path’s Sender Score Certified...

Specific guidelines for various materials

Announcement press release: Upon acceptance into Return Path’s Sender Score Certified, you may send out a press release announcing this to differentiate your email program. You can use the approved Return Path template, or you may do your own version and send to us for approval prior to release. We must approve announcement releases that are not using our exact template, and you must tell us when you plan to announce regardless of which release you use.

Boilerplate use: You may use language about participation in Return Path’s Sender Score Certified in your standard press release boilerplate. Language should be similar to:

"Our email program is accredited by Return Path’s Sender Score Certified program, increasing our email delivery rates to more than 35,000 domains."

If you would like to use different language, please get prior approval from Return Path.

Logo use: Sender Score Certified logos are available at http://www.senderscorecertified.com/about/ssc_logo.php. You may use the Sender Score Certified logos in your offline marketing materials, on your website, and in emails to customers announcing your program participation. You may NOT use the logo in your normal day-to-day email communications.

All branding and communications questions should be directed to your Return Path representative or Return Path Corporate Communications.
